The Twin Cities Slovenians group was formed in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul Minnesota, as Branch 109 of the Slovenian Women's Union of America
(SWUA). The Twin Cities Slovenians welcome men, women and
children as members. If you have Slovenian heritage or are a
friend of the Slovenian culture we invite you to join our social
group.
Our goal
is to honor our Slovenian heritage interest through the sharing of
fellowship, culture, history, music, language, literature and genealogy
activities.
If you
are of Slovenian heritage, wish you were, or are just impressed by this
very small and very beautiful country, the Twin City Slovenians welcome
your inquiry and membership. SWUA 109 Twin Cities Slovenians - where
there's plenty of potica, good will and fun to go around.
ABOUT SLOVENIA
The Republic of Slovenia lies at the heart of Europe, where the Alps
face the Pannonian plains and the Mediterranean meets the mysterious
Karst. To the north borders to Austria; Hungary is to the
east; Croatia to the south and Italy to the west. Slovenia
declared its independance from Yugoslavia on June 25, 1991, and became
a member of the European Union on May 1, 2004.
Slovenia takes up 7,827 square miles (20,273 km2) of land, with an
estimated population of 2,054,199 in 2009, 99.6 people per
km2. Compared to Minnesota which is 86,943 square miles
(225,181 km2) of land, with a population of 5,266,214 in 2009, 65.3
people per square mile.
